About the job

Principal Accountant

Pune, India | On-site | 11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m. IST as required

Take ownership of complex accounting—and make the process better.

If you enjoy working through complex accounting questions, taking ownership through close and audit, and finding smarter ways to work, this role brings those challenges together. At BrightNight, you will manage multi-entity consolidation and reporting, apply technical accounting judgment, and help improve the processes behind accurate, timely financial information.

This is a hands-on role for someone who wants both technical depth and the opportunity to improve how work gets done. You will partner with Operational Accounting, Tax, FP&A, and auditors, connecting detailed accounting work with the wider needs of the business.

Why BrightNight

BrightNight is a next-generation power and digital infrastructure company serving utilities, data centers, and commercial and industrial customers. We deliver clean, dispatchable, and resilient power solutions. Our AI-native PowerAlpha® platform has enabled the development of a 30 GW portfolio comprising 61 projects concentrated in fast-growing energy markets and data-center hubs across the U.S. Strategic investors include Goldman Sachs and Global Infrastructure Partners (BlackRock).

Why this role stands out

• Meaningful ownership. Manage consolidation and reporting across multiple entities, with direct responsibility for the quality of financial statements, reporting packages, and supporting schedules.

• Real technical scope. Work through intercompany transactions, foreign-currency impacts, consolidation adjustments, accounting guidance, and financial-statement disclosures—not just routine processing.

• Room to improve the work. Bring ideas for automation and AI-enabled tools that improve accounting efficiency and accuracy while maintaining strong controls.

• A business with a tangible mission. Apply your accounting expertise to a company building reliable clean-power solutions for utilities, data centers, and other high-demand customers.

What you will do

Consolidation and financial reporting

• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual multi-entity consolidation and reporting processes.

• Review consolidated financial statements, reporting packages, and supporting schedules for accuracy and completeness.

• Analyze intercompany transactions, eliminations, foreign-currency impacts, and consolidation adjustments.

Technical accounting, controls, and audit

• Apply U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS guidance to accounting matters, complex transactions, and financial-statement disclosures.

• Identify accounting issues, develop practical solutions, and document your conclusions clearly.

• Support SOX and financial-reporting controls, identify gaps, and help implement remediation plans.

• Coordinate with internal and external auditors, providing clear analysis and well-supported documentation.

Partnership and process improvement

• Work closely with Tax, Operational Accounting, FP&A, and other stakeholders to resolve issues and deliver timely reporting.

• Improve accounting workflows through better processes, automation, and practical use of AI-enabled tools.

What you bring

• A Chartered Accountant qualification with 5–7 years of relevant accounting experience, or a CPA qualification with 4–6 years of relevant experience.

• Strong U.S. GAAP and/or IFRS knowledge, with the ability to explain and apply guidance to real accounting situations.

• Hands-on experience in multi-entity consolidation, intercompany accounting, financial close, and reporting.

• Experience supporting internal and external audits, financial-reporting controls, and SOX requirements.

• Clear, concise communication: you can explain your work, distinguish what you owned from what you supported, and be candid when an issue requires further research.

• A proactive, collaborative approach, attention to detail, and willingness to roll up your sleeves to get the work done.

What will help you stand out

Experience preparing financial statements, handling Indian GAAP/Ind AS-to-U.S. GAAP conversions, or improving a process through automation or AI will be valuable. Energy-sector experience is not essential; strong accounting experience in another complex, multi-entity business can translate well.
