About the Role

We're looking for a Principal Engineer to join our Platform team, which owns foundational services like CIAM, Authorization, Search, API Infrastructure — and the tools, frameworks, and developer experience improvements that power engineering at Juniper Square. You'll be the senior-most technical voice on the team, blending hands-on engineering with technical leadership, architectural ownership, and cross-functional influence.

What You'll Do

• Operate as the Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for high-impact initiatives; take full ownership of project health, system design, and end-to-end delivery
• Partner closely with Product Management and cross-functional teams to clarify ambiguous requirements, map business goals to technical scopes, and manage dependencies
• Drive architectural design, pragmatic task breakdown, and execution planning, leading a team of engineers toward incremental deliverables
• Establish reusable patterns, technical standards, and platform primitives that other teams can build on
• Improve engineering efficiency through better tooling, automation, documentation, observability, and developer workflows
• Mentor engineers, raise the quality of technical decision-making, and help the team execute with consistency
• Drive adoption of AI tooling across the SDLC — building internal capabilities that automate engineering workflows while ensuring security, compliance, and best-practice alignment

Qualifications

• 12+ years of experience designing, building, and operating large-scale distributed production systems
• Strong backend engineering experience with Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, Pyramid, or Django
• Experience leading technical design for complex systems — architecture decisions, evaluating tradeoffs, guiding implementation across multiple engineers or teams
• Relational/NoSQL databases: schema design, performance tuning, query optimization, data modeling
• Cloud-native systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure as code
• Strong understanding of CI/CD, observability, reliability, and operational excellence in production
• Ability to work through ambiguity, break down complex problems, and drive alignment across engineering, product, and design
• Strong ownership mindset; raise engineering quality through standards, design reviews, mentoring, and reusable platform patterns
• Passion for developer experience — platforms, tooling, automation, documentation; comfortable shipping value incrementally

Nice to Have

• Platform team experience building tools and services consumed by other developers
• Building or integrating AI/LLM-powered systems in production — AI SDKs, RAG pipelines, evaluation frameworks, guardrails, prompt/tool orchestration, model observability
• CIAM/Identity systems — Auth0, Okta, OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, or custom identity infrastructure
• Security-aware design — least-privilege access, secrets management, secure API gateway patterns
• Passion for growing others through coaching, delegation, and leading by example
