About the job

We are looking for a high-ownership Software Development Engineer I (SDE-1)to join our Fulfilment Web team. In this role, you will architect, build, and scale mission-critical web applications that power our end-to-end fulfilment ecosystem. You will solve complex UI and state management challenges at scale, with opportunities to contribute to backend APIs and build and utilise AI-powered workflows that accelerate business and engineering velocity.

The Fulfilment Web team builds the operational nerve centre of Zepto. Our platforms handle complex state, dense datasets, and real-time workflows across Vendor Experience, Finance, Last Mile Logistics, and Supply Chain Planning. Because our interfaces power dark-store operations, rider dispatch, and automated reconciliation, every millisecond of performance and improvement in reliability directly impacts warehouse throughput and company margins.

Responsibilities:

  • Build at Scale: Design, develop, and maintain modular, high-performance web applications using React and TypeScript, focusing on clean architecture and long-term maintainability.
  • Own Complex Workflows: Translate intricate supply chain, financial, and operational requirements into intuitive, reliable user interfaces capable of handling large datasets, complex validations, and high concurrency.
  • Drive Engineering Excellence: Write testable, resilient code. Contribute to shared UI component libraries, enforce strong typing, and participate in rigorous code and design reviews.
  • Optimise Performance and Reliability: Proactively improve Core Web Vitals, bundle sizes, and runtime rendering performance. Instrument client-side telemetry and error tracking to guarantee high availability across operational portals.
  • End-to-End Ownership: Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams from PRD to production, stepping in to contribute to backend APIs or service integrations when needed.
  • AI-Native Engineering: Leverage AI developer tools to ship faster and improve test coverage, while building intuitive frontend interfaces for internal AI and agentic tools.

Requirements:

  • Experience: 1+ years of hands-on software engineering experience building and shipping production web applications at scale in a fast-paced product environment.
  • Strong Fundamentals: Deep mastery of JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS, with a first-principles understanding of how browsers render, cache, and execute code.
  • Frontend Architecture: Strong proficiency in React and modern frontend patterns, including client/server state management (e. g., TanStack Query, Zustand, Redux), asynchronous data handling, and modular component design.
  • System Complexity: Demonstrated experience working on complex web systems—such as data-dense dashboards, role-based access control (RBAC), virtualised tables, complex multi-step forms, or real-time operational tooling.
  • Core Engineering Principles: Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, network protocols (HTTP, REST, WebSockets), web security, and performance optimisation.

Good-to-Haves (Bonus Points):

  • Backend Exposure: Experience contributing to backend services, REST/GraphQL APIs, or server-side logic across any modern backend stack (Node.js, Go, Java, Python, etc. ).
  • AI Tooling and Product Exposure: Practical experience using AI coding workflows (e. g., Cursor, Copilot, MCPs, automated test generation) to boost engineering velocity, alongside exposure to building UIs for LLM/agentic applications (streaming responses, chat/canvas interfaces).
  • Modern Web Tooling: Familiarity with monorepo setups, modern bundlers, automated E2E/unit testing frameworks (e. g., Playwright, Vitest/Jest), and client-side observability tools.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
